This is a sweet color plate illustration from a 1916 book called Princess Marie-Jose's Childrens Book -- Marie-Jose was a Belgian princess who was evacuated to England in WWI, and I believe the book was a fundraising effort.

This particular illustration is by Louise Jacobs, whose illustration work was mainly done for magazines of the era. The illustration is called The Sand Fairy, and depicts a delicate fairy coming down in a beam of light to a little girl who is sitting up in bed. She appears to be in either a hospital or orphanage, and if you look closely, that looks like a nun sitting in a chair in the background.

The page is 9.5 x 6.5, but the illustration is 6.25 x 5.125 inches. There is a bit of age-related tanning and a small smudge in the white margin on the right-hand side. Beyond that, the plate is largely in good condition and would very lovely in a vintage or vintage-style frame.
