The transformation of this piece is stunning. I hope you agree. The frame of this stool came to me from a house clean out in Brookline, MA. Tattered and disheveled, it still had remnants of a blue and red plaid clinging to it. 1960's maybe? There was work to do here, but it had a good personality.

I started by completely stripping it down and hand sanding the legs to the point that the original stain offered only a vague patina of color. A light coating of wax campleted the aesthetic. I upholstered this jewel in the rough with a two inch foam and a layer of organic cotton batting before moving on to the top fabric.

As you may know, I love old oriental rugs. The antique carpet I used for this footstool makes my heart melt. There are some previous repairs made by another generation. I made some additional repairs myself. And I celebrated the wear and patina of a well loved life. I love that I created a new piece that looks as antique as the sum of its parts would warrant. To finish off this nod to the past, the dust covering on the underside of the stool is burlap, giving it a truly Old World look.

Measures about 17" l x 11.5" w x 13" t.
