Rare Elzac of California Figural Owl Brooch

Barbie creators Ruth and Eliot Handler modeled Barbie after a German design and went on to co-found Mattel with their former employee, Harold Mattson, and the rest is history. But before Barbie, the Handlers were part of a company named Elzac of Hollywood. Elzac produced whimsical and unique figural costume jewelry brooches during the 1940s. Today these brooches are among the most popular and collectible of all vintage costume jewelry.

This is a rare Elzac OWL brooch - gorgeous blue ceramic body with pink lucite wings. I have not been able to find another like it!! Brooch measures 2 1/2" in length by 2" wide - a substantial piece!! In good vintage condition.

I will be listing some beautiful and special vintage jewelry pieces for a friend in the coming weeks. Her mother, who passed away some 20 years ago, had an antique jewelry store in Scottsdale, AZ. The family had been holding on to some of her special jewelry pieces, but now feels it is time to let them find a new home. This is just one of those pieces.
