I assemble and wood burn these beautiful yet basic top whorl drop spindles from oak which is sanded smooth and then sealed with a hand rubbed coat of linseed oil to bring out the natural beauty of the wood. This design is inspired by the Scottish Thistle flower and I make several at a time, each one varies slightly in pattern. Each spindle weighs about 2 oz. (58g) and is approximately 12" long with a whorl that is 2.5" in diameter.
