Ah, another fabulously retro "Mad Men" era title - "The Working Wives' (Salaried or Otherwise) Cook Book" will offer many insights into the social climate in the early 1960s kitchen, as the authors explain why they've written yet another cook book for the modern woman. The problem, as they see it, is that many "quick" cook books are either a little TOO quick and economical, so that "everything tastes like cream of mushroom soup." Or, many of them utilize ingredients too expensive for the average family:

"The bachelor girl entertaining a beau may consider three dollars' worth of frozen lobster meat a good investment, but, if it has been a really good investment and she finds herself cooking for Beau plus two or three little Beaus, that super Lobster Newburgh is going to appear on her dinner table rarely."

There's also plenty of waxing poetic over the "woman-saving electric appliance....lovely Dansk casseroles....Corningware glass" and dried spices.

For the Betty Draper or Helen Bishop in all of us!

Small hard cover book measures 5.5 x 8 inches; 162 numbered pages; 1963.
