Large early 1900s German alpaca silver locket, no chain. Features a beautiful enameled pink rose motif on front. The locket opens on the right with a small tab and notch to reveal two oval spaces inside with both original photo rings present (no covers). There are four lines scratched into each half, which was done by locket maker's back then to ensure the pieces were matched properly. The locket snaps closed securely. The backside is plain and the back of the bail is marked "APC" for Alpaca--a copper, nickel, zinc and tin combination which was used to emulate silver. This is a large yet very lightweight locket measuring 1-7/8 inches x 1-5/16 inches (47mm x 34mm) not including the loop and attached ornamental bail. The enamel is in lovely condition for its age, the colors and detail are amazing! The metal does have quite a bit of overall wear including two tarnished/plate-worn spots on front near the left side of the rose and toward the bottom left--I have not attempted to clean or polish it. The backside has quite a few worn spots as well (see last photo) and an oh so subtle dent toward the bottom. A rare and lovely piece flaws and all!

Insurance is included in the shipping cost for this item.
