Vintage Retro Pair Of Universal Statuary Corporation Floral Plaster Plaques Signed and Dated Circa 1966. This is an estate sale find, and a great way to add a retro feeling for your decor.

Universal Statuary Corporation was founded around 1940 in Chicago by the Lucchesi family. They originally produced Italian designs out of plaster, but quickly branched out to decorative accessories for their own distribution as well as on contract. they also produced large items for retail promotional displays. It is interesting to note all their designs were always copyrighted. The Company was sold in the 1980's.

These are a pair of retro wall plaques. Chalk ware is a type of decorative accessory that has enjoyed popularity for many years. Although the name "chalk ware" implies that these pieces are made of chalk, they are actually made of plaster.

The measurements are 11 3/4" in diameter and 1 1/2"deep. The colors are vibrant and the flowers are detailed, there is normal wear on these, each plague is signed and dated. I have not painted or repaired these plaques, I see the beauty of these in their age. If you need everything perfect these pieces are not for you. They are out of the box ready to hang, with the original wire on the back. The plaques are substantial and weigh in at 3 lbs each.

One of the new house maids at Downton Abbey is asking Mr. Carson if it is all right if she hangs these in her room. Guess we need to ask The Doctor to intervene in this situation, since the maid is living in 1919 and these were made across the pond in 1966.

Just left a message on The Doctor's i-phone to make sense of this situation.

Have to share this with the reader, I am definitely getting the hang of this Time Traveling!
