"'Scuse Me Today" is vintage sheet music from 1909 showing a photograph of a classroom filled with students sitting at old-fashioned bench desks. A girl in the back of the room writes on a blackboard. The room is lit with a hanging oil lamp and a pendulum clock hangs on the wall.

The waltz was written and published by Chas. K. Harris, who also composed "After the Ball" (a song so popular it is incorporated into his logo at the bottom right of the front cover).

The inside front cover has a sample of "Will the Roses Bloom in Heaven," which includes the immortal lines, "In a cold and cheerless garret, In a room so dim and alone. 'Mid the frosty wint'ry silence, There is heard a little moan."

The title page of the sheet music has an elaborate decorative border that includes a photo of the mustachioed Chas.K. Harris looking very noble, a peacock feather, and another mention of "After the Ball."

The song itself is about two little playmates, and as near as I can tell, the boy wants to take the girl to the circus, but the teacher won't excuse him from school because his clothes are muddy. It is presented quite tragically.

The large format folio is 6 pages including the covers and measures 11 x 14 inches (27.94 x 35.56 cm). It is in fairly delicate condition, with lots of edge wear and small tears. The hinge may have been glued.

This sheet music is complete and playable. Use it to learn the song, decorate a piano, frame the cover, or create an art project!
