This remedy is still used today. It was first created in the 14th Century and used by the Queen Of Hungary in the 16th century to restore her youthful beauty, its recipe changed over the years. This specific Gypsy Astringent recipe is reputed to have been concocted by Gypsies in the 19th century with a combination of previous historical recipes and their own. They made it as a cure all.

This is very popular and we sell out often.

Suggested Use:
It is an excellent astringent for the face, After shave for men, a wonderful foot bath and a great rinse for dark hair. Apply to face with a cotton ball after washing either durning the day or before bedtime and you don't need to worry about rinsing it off. This will help with acne and all sorts of facial blemishes. You can also add this to your facial masks. Apply to your temples for headaches, splash on as a aftershave, or soak your feet on a foot bath. On the most basic level, this formula is all about restoring tone to the skin. The herbs are antioxidants and astringents. This gypsy astringent will reduce the size of large pores. It is also antimicrobial.
The vinegar in the formula restores the skin’s acid mantle. This is important because soap makes the skin very alkaline.

This Gypsy herbal astringent lotion combines gentle herbs in a masterful way. It’s a versatile formula, the Gypsies used it as a hair rinse, mouthwash, headache remedy, aftershave, footbath, and more! I have seen this formula sold in stores for crazy prices. Apparently Neiman Marcus sells this for $86.00 for 4 oz.

Shake Before Use! Natural Settlement & "Scoby's" may occur.

Fragrance:
This was also known as, "Hungary Water" -first appeared outside of Hungary in 1370 when the French Charles V le Sage, famous for his love of fragrances, received some. Hungary water was known across Europe for many centuries and until Cologne appeared in the 18th century, it was the number one fragrance and remedy applied in the world. The scent and recipe has changed quite a bit since 1370 and this original variation is very effective and has a very strong vinegar scent.

Skin and Body:
The Gypsy Astringent is very beneficial to the skin. It is also a valuable remedy for many ailments. Legend has it that the early Gypsies formulated it and claimed it to be a cure-all. I do know that it is an excellent astringent for the face and a great rinse for dark hair, foot bath, and aftershave. I tried using it for mouth wash and it was really strong, but after my mouth felt fresh.

Where Did It Come From:
Many details about the origins of Queen Of Hungary Water have been lost to history. But it is generally agreed that it was originally formulated pre-Renaissance at the orders of a European Queen from Hungary. This specific recipe touted started off with the Queen of Hungary Water as it's base and then was added to by the Gypsies and though out the centuries.

Legend Has It:
According to the legend, after regular use by the 70+ year old Queen, it restored her youthful beauty. As a result the handsome prince of Poland, at 28 years old, was so taken with her beauty that he asked her to marry him! While we will not promise royal proposals, we will say it is a fine facial astringent and rejuvenative tonic. The Gypsy recipe holds many positive health benefits In the book “Pharmacopoeia Londinensis” by Nicholas Culpeper there is a litany of the positive benefits of this centuries earlier revered formula.

Here is more info on why Vinegar is great for the face:

For gorgeous skin, use our Gypsy Astringent!

The use of vinegar with a variety of plants or essential oils for cosmetic purposes can be traced back to the Romans and was fashionable during the 19th century as vinegar de toilette.

Vinegar has a tonic action that promotes blood circulation in the small capillaries that irrigate the skin. It is also antiseptic, preventing the proliferation of bacteria, viruses, or yeast that trigger infection. It can dissolve excessive fatty deposits at the surface of the skin and reduce scaly or peeling conditions. Lastly, vinegar regulates the pH of the skin.

Please note: This astringent works on the ph levels of your body, so if you are acidic the first time you put it on, it will sting and leave red marks. This is normal. After a while of constant use, this astringent will rebalance your ph levels which will leave you alkaline. Your skin will be softer, clearer, and younger looking. The stinging and redness will stop as your skin's ph levels out.

As everyone says, it does smell strongly of vinegar, but the only problem with that is that it makes me hungry.

I use this on days my skin is in bad shape.
I also use it to fight ache, & i found applied over hives helps calm them down & heal them. ( For me I'm no doctor & can't say it will work for everyone.) The stuff has quite the strong vinegar smell & when close to the eyes they will water because of that.
(aka don't have your eye makeup all nice & done & go to dab your cheeks. You will look like a member of an emo rock band.)
Over all, i seriously can't live without this stuff.
It's an essential to my toiletries. I highly suggest it.
