These are bombilla straws, traditionally used for drinking yerba mate, but useful for drinking tea of any kind. Their unique design serves as that of a teabag, tea ball, strainer or infuser, in that you can place your loose tea leaves or herbs straight in your mug and drink from the straw naturally without getting any leaves or herbs in your mouth. The bottom of each straw is closed off but has small openings in the sides that filter the liquid through and leave the particulates in the cup. These bombillas are hand-cut from bamboo, which has natural antimicrobial (antibacterial, antifungal) properties, making them safe for repeated use and needing only hot water to wash them. The holes are decoratively woodburned into them, and you can choose the design from options including initials, hearts, peace signs, flowers, chevrons, or perhaps whatever else your imagination might desire. Pictured are examples; straws are made to order and cost $16 each. Upon purchase, please message me and let me know what design you would like.

FOR THOSE ASKING, "WHAT IS A YERBA MATE BOMBILLA?":
"Mate is a traditional South American infused drink, prepared from steeping dried leaves of yerba mate in hot water. Mate is traditionally drunk in a particular social setting, such as family gatherings or with friends. The same gourd and straw are used by everyone drinking. Those who share the mate join in a kind of bond of total acceptance and friendship. Drinking the yerba mate is considered to be more than just good for the body; it's also good for the soul. Drinking it can be a form of meditation or reflection - allowing the goodness to infuse into the body while stimulating and resting the mind.
Mate is served with a straw from a shared hollow calabash gourd. The straw is called a bombilla in Latin American Spanish, a bomba in Portuguese, and a masassa in Arabic. The straw is traditionally made of silver, while modern commercially available straws are typically made of nickel silver, stainless steel, or hollow-stemmed cane. The gourd is known as a mate or a guampa, while in Brazil it has the specific name of chimarrão or cuia. Traditionally, natural gourds are used, though wood vessels, bamboo tubes and gourd-shaped mates, made of ceramic or metal are also common."
