This sack dating to 1938 is printed on two panels (on the outside of the front panel and on the inside of the back panel) therefore if you cut the sack along the side and bottom seams you would end up with two printed panels. These two printed panels are seen in images 2 and 4.

The sack has blanket stitched seams along the sides and along the bottom. The diameter of the circle containing the text is 19", the text which translates to 'Farmers Cooperative of the Cote d'Or'. The purple stripes running the length of the sack are woven and not printed this is a common feature seen on a sack from the 1930's.

There are no holes or darns. There is slight staining to the bottom 5" of the sack, this should not effect any project that involves cutting out a panel for a pillow cover or upholstery project.

The sack would have been used by members of the farmers cooperative to transport grain to a central store and then from there to the mills. The '10f' printed in a box towards the top of the sack refers to the 10 French Franc deposit paid by the farmer or miller for the use of the sack.

In summary the sack is in excellent condition and could be used to make pillow covers, an upholstery project or simply framed as an attractive piece of wall art. It is a rare find.

I have washed this grain sack in cold water to remove the remnants of grain and dirt. It is an authentic grain sack found in a local mill.

The sack dimensions are;
Width: 26 1/2" (approx)
Height: 49 1/2" (approx)
