Charming little elephant figurine made in the traditional Raku technique of firing ceramics in an open fire. Cracks on the glaze are characteristic of this process as is the smoke grey color of the clay. I believe this colorful African elephant was made at "The Fenix" a coop founded by Lorraine Marincowitz and Louise Leibbrandt in 1988 in Somerset West, a town 40km from Cape Town, South Africa. These figures are still in production.

Elephant is in great condition with no damage. Measures 3 3/4" long, 1 3/4" wide and 2 1/4" tall.
