Gorgeous vintage Margot de Taxco sterling silver necklace and earring set has pale blue and white champlevé enameling. This remarkable set is an abstract geometric design with Margot's visionary styling. Textured pale blue rectangles with curved white enamel flourishes are laid out in a repeating design. I just love the movement and vitality this creates. The matching earrings follow the contours of the ear lobe.

The necklace fastens with a V-spring box clasp which is secure. The screw back earrings are in fine vintage condition, including the enamel. The necklace has a fine stress fracture bisecting one of the plaques (no enamel loss, and not through the surface). Some minor losses of enamel here or there, nothing visually distracting. These condition statements are mentioned for clarity. The set retains its amazing beauty and exceptional styling. Each piece has acquired a nice patina which I have left undisturbed. The set is guaranteed authentic and original Margot de Taxco silver enamel, and not a modern reproduction.

A LITTLE HISTORY: In 1955, Margot Van Voorhies Carr added her trademark enamel-on-silver line to her already successful sterling line. Though men worked to execute the sterling silver portion of Margot’s designs, it was women in the workshop who were involved in the exacting work of painting the enamel on these complex pieces. They were under the direction of Sigi Pineda, who, in an interview, conveyed that he encouraged Margot to add an enameling technique to her designs.

“As the Stars are to the Night, so are Jewels to the Woman” was the statement on Margot's business card, and summarizes her creative mission. This small phrase defines the jewelry made in Taxco, Mexico by one of the most elegant and talented designers of that time.
