Really fascinating! Found this in a dark basement at an estate sale. A jar of ash, collected immediately after the eruption of Mount St. Helens on May 18, 1980.

The jar has a masking tape label, partially illegible, but from what I can read it says: "Original Volcanic Ash, May 18th 1980, same day, From bottom of mountain, safety zone, moon turned to blood nite before."

Great powdery specimen. The jar measures 5 inches high, and 2 1/2 inches in diameter. Weighs 1 lb, 4 oz.

A wonderful curiosity from a powerful event.
