:: Sagebrush Eye ::

Out of the Drylands Incantations series, this third of my latest group of riveted coin rings from the past week (they seem to come in batches) is slightly scaled-down for smaller fingers. I tend not to make the Eye Rings in smaller sizes, thinking that customers who have small ring sizes wouldn't want to wear a large ring, but this turns out not to be the case. So here's one in a size 6 3/4-7.

This one is a little unusual in that I used a coin that has a soft, sage green patina, and paired it with a bronze bezel that was molded on a stone. The two colors are beautiful together and they make for a very eye-pleasing combination.

The coins are from British West Africa, are both made of nickel, and date to the early 20th century. The green one is a half-penny and the smaller one is a tenth-penny. On top of them is a cast bronze crinoid stem fossil, looking very primitive, with a brass washer and the sterling silver rivet head on top of that.

A larger bezel of nickel supports the bronze bezel, which I've etched with a vintage yucca pod design that is just visible around the edges. The band of the ring is sterling silver, hammered on desert rock for a lovely texture.

These rings have an all-riveted construction using three sterling rivets, which is very sturdy and will easily withstand daily wear. Although they're big, dramatic, and solid, they're remarkably comfortable for three reasons:

First, all components are sanded to a smooth, worn, broken-in surface;
Second the bezel has a gentle, upward curve that rides close to the hand, stabilizing it and preventing it from interfering with the free movement of your fingers;
Third, the band is wide for stability, but tapered so it narrows beneath your finger, making it easier to bend the finger.

The Eye Rings are my take on the old, ubiquitous talismans against the Evil Eye, so prevalent in the Old World. These rings are a lot of fun to wear and sure to attract the interest of the curious!

Ring size: 6 3/4-7. The nickel bezel measures 44mm x 31mm.

Care: Wash with soap and water, but avoid scrubbing the coins as it may wear down the patina.

The Sagebrush Eye will arrive beautifully giftwrapped in a square ring box, similar in style to those pictured in the sample Drylands Incantations packaging listing...which you should see for more details.
