Please note that these are truly Mini Jizos!! Designed to fit almost anywhere a little of the protective energy of the JIzo is needed! Each Jizo is just over 2" tall!!

I have been drawn to the meaning of the Jizo statues since I first encountered them through the Pacific Northwest Zen monastery that is named after Jizo's vow. Jizo, is the Buddhist protector of children, women and travelers in the six realms of existence. It is an appropriate votive for anyone who has suffered a loss or who is at a crossroads in their life.

I feel in tune with the essence of the Jizo through the identification as a traveler. And while that can be viewed in the most traditional sense of our world, I also think of it as anyone who is moving through their life with open eyes and an open heart. Navigating the difficulties that arise in life is a very arduous, but necessary, part of our growth. I have called on the essence of Jizo to watch over myself and others as those difficulties arise.

Jizo is most often associated with watching over the spirits of children who have passed from our world and mothers in childbirth.

This Miniature Jizo is hand formed with no molds and is made of premium polymer clay. It is then sanded and painted with acrylic paints to give the appearance of the stone finish. This Jizo is presented holding a lotus blossom in its cupped hands that features a Swarovski crystal chaton center. The colors available for the center are now:

Aquamarine Blue
Peridot Green
Rose Quartz Pink
Amethyst Purple
Champagne Peach
Aurora Borealis
Ruby Red
Forest Green

Please specify at time of ordering if you have a preference. If not, we will always make the default wither Aquamarine or Peridot. :)

We also offer Onegai Jizos which feature a red hat and bib in a white stone finish. In modern Japan, a red hat, bib, and toys are still often found on Jizō statues, the gifts of a rejoicing parent whose child has been cured of dangerous sickness thanks to Jizō's intervention, or a gift to help the deceased child in the afterlife.

The Miniature Jizo comes gift boxed and with a description of it's meaning and history.

The Miniature Jizos pictured measure 2" high, 1 1/2" wide and 1 1/4 inches deep.

A Bodhisattva is an archetypal being dedicated to helping others, and embodying specific spiritual qualities. Jizo is known for making a vow to be present with, and benefit to, all suffering beings in all realms, and to continuously benefit others.

Jizo's qualities include unending optimism, courage, and a gentle nature. Jizo also bears a nurturing love for all beings. Jizo is always called upon in any situation to help those in need.

Jizo is especially concerned with taking care of those who are vulnerable, and most well known may be the facet of Jizo helping children who've died face the transition between life and death.

In Japan, and now the USA, Jizo has a special meaning and blessing for women who have lost children. Jizo is also called upon for travelers at important life crossroads who may be facing great challenges ahead of them.

There is a short chant associated with Jizo, which invokes the energy of Jizo, and may help dispel distressing, repetitive thoughts.

Om - Ka - Ka - Kabi - San - Ma - E - Sowa - Ka

The chant should be recited in even steady beats with no break between the repetitions.
