Antique Galloway Pottery Bronze Sundial Garden Architecture

This is a very rare antique bronze sundial made by Galloway Pottery of Philadelphia. They were founded in 1810 and operated their business on Market Street and then later Walnut Street in Philadelphia. They won the Philadelphia 1876 exposition, the Chicago exposition, and the St. Louis Exposition!

This sundial was probably atop a birdbath, garden fountain or a terra cotta stand. It is made of solid bronze with the original green paint. It is decorated with a pair of embossed dolphins holding a flower with their tails and has Roman Numerals around the outer rim. The center features a sea serpent and it is embossed "Galloway Pottery Philadelphia."

It measures 11" across and is very heavy-it weighs almost 8 pounds.

There is a large chip measuring 1" in the rim of the dial and the centerpiece is badly bent. There is also some surface rust and paint loss. See close up photos and use the zoom feature for closer inspection.
