Homemade ice creams and sorbets are specialties of the house. We will experiment with anything, with a couple of unusual successes being rosemary-lemon-Sauvignon Blanc and cucumber-mint-tarragon. We shan’t talk about some of the less winning combinations we’ve tried. The stock and trade, however, is using berries and cream,. My personal favorite is strawberry with nice chunks left in to make a textured, swirled desert. This roving is strawberry pink with vanilla and mauve streaks.

This listing is for one two-ply skein, weighing 5.3 ounces., spun at an average of 1450 ypp (yards per pound). This is a fine sport weight and wraps at about 15-18. The total yardage is 480

This yarn is made of a blend of 50% Merino wool and 50% Tencel fiber.

Merino is the standard by which the fineness of wool is graded and is among the softest fleeces in the world. It’s an old breed, originally brought to the Iberian peninsula in the 12th or 13th century. Being small bodied, it is grown mostly for its exquisite wool. The staple is crimpy and shorter than some other popular breeds, but makes up for that in its legendary softness.

Tencel is a regenerated cellulose fiber made from wood pulp. It is among the most sustainable of textiles, as it can be made from waste wood, and the manufacturing process is very nearly a closed loop, with most materials being reusable. Tencel can be made to resemble silk, and is soft, breathable, and wrinkle-resistant.

See my Store Policy FAQs section for further knitting gauge suggestions for various yard weights, a bit about sheep breeds and yarn softness and care instructions for different fibers.

My skeins are wound on a full 2-yard niddy-noddy. If you don’t have a large swift, let me know. Spun in a smoke-free, pet-friendly home.
