My work explores the malleable nature of memory formation and remembrance, presenting ambiguous narratives characterized by omission, distortion, and hyperbole. This particular image was inspired by two photographs that I found in an album of my great-grandmother's: one of my grandfather and his hunting buddies posing with their day's spoils, the other of my grandmother with her bridge club friends. Intrigued by the parallels between these two groupings of figures and the questions they evoke, I juxtaposed them within a single image; these two separate experiences of a Sunday afternoon becoming conflated into a single memory, merging like beads of moisture on glass.

All imagery is rendered by hand, incorporating traditional intaglio techniques of hard-ground etching, mezzotint, spit bite, drypoint, and lots of scraping and burnishing. Executed in oil-based etching inks on ivory Fabriano Rosaspina paper, this work was hand-pulled from a single copper plate using my Conrad etching press.
