Antique bonbon bowl was made in Japan about 100 years ago. Has a lovely gold border inside the rim with the shapes of flowers, vines, leaves and fruit in a flowing Art Nouveau style. Bowl has a squared shape, with 4 interior petal-like sections. Rim edge is decorated in creamy tan, and there is a pale lemon curd yellow band that meets it just inside the rim.

Bowl measures 7 1/4 inches across, and the upturned rim stands about 2 inches above the table surface. Has blue backstamp: Hand Painted (blue spoke mark in a circle) Nippon. This mark dates the piece to as old as the first decades of the 20th Century. Was found in a box lot of old china at an estate auction in 1999. I bought it for the mid century modern pieces included, and this item just came along.

In very good condition. Has some tiny nicks at the base where it sits on the table (see last photo), and some wear to the gold decoration. Most wear shows on a thin trim ring just above the base. Lots of sparkle. Clean inside. Could be used (hand wash only, not for use in microwave -- the trim is metal), or displayed as an antique.
