In August 1892, Lizzie Borden's parents were found axed to death in a gruesome scene within their New England home. Although Lizzie was acquitted of the killings, no one else was arrested or suspect. Rumors are that Lizzie and her parents still haunt the home where the murders took place.

The media frenzy surrounding the horrible deaths and the ensuing trial made Lizzie a bit of a notorious celebrity. As a result, school children made a rhyme, chanted in schoolyards while skipping rope. The rhyme is hauntingly printed on this bookmark:

"Lizzie Borden took and axe
and gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done
She gave her father forty-one."

Lizzie's axe is sculpted from carefully crafted polymer clay. No molds used. Bloody details applied with acrylic paint. Bookmark is laminated, perfectly durable and meant to last for many years. Part of the charm of my handcrafted creations is the slightly rugged edges of the double-thick cardstock.

If you would like to customize the print on the bookmark, a $5.00 charge applies. To choose your text, please purchase this listing: http://www.etsy.com/listing/89876866/personalize-any-bookmark-at-ians-cafe
