This is such a lovely, elegant and feminineold diamond ring from the 1920's...still engraved with the bride and groom's original initials and date of 1926! (the ring itself looks very Edwardian to Art Deco, so could even be a bit older than it's engraved date)

Beautifully crafted of solid 18K white gold, the ring features a lovely old European cut diamond among very detailed filigree. The diamond is very white and fiery - nice quality - and measures approximately 4.5 mm in diameter so is estimated to be approximately .35 carats or so. (I have not removed the stone to weigh it, but calculated the approximate weight based on it's cut and dimensions) It's very bright, lively and white...I would judge the color to be in the F-G-H range of colorless to near-colorless. It is completely eye-clean and under my loupe I only see a couple of small crystalline's a very pretty old diamond and has all the fire that I love to see in these old cuts! I don't see any nicks, chips or scratches - the diamond is in really nice condition for it's age. It's held aloft with four double prongs that do show quite a bit of wear and really should be retipped soon to protect the stone long-term.

The filigree and detailing on this ring is exquisite...there are flowers on either side of the base of the setting - still clear and crisp...and pretty leaves on each shoulder. The filigree is still in great condition - I don't see any damage at all. Milgrain work is still evident - some of it quite crisp and some showing some softening from age.

There is also lovely old carving down the sides of the band, about 3/4 of the way down, leaving a polished area at the back for sizing. The carving shows softening of the design - particularly under magnification...but still looks very pretty to the naked eye. It looks to me like it was stylized flowers and leaves.

The face of the ring is approximately 9 x 12 mm and the rise off the finger is approximately 7.8 mm. While very feminine, it has a very nice presence on the hand.

The band is slender by design, and is still in good condition despite some thinning at the very back where I can see it was once sized. The inside of the band still bears the hand engraving "S.O. to F.W." and the partial date of "20 - 26." (It looks like the engraved month was removed when the ring was sized....but, at least we know the year!) The total weight of the ring is a nice 2.85 grams.

Currently a size 7, this ring could be sized within reason by a good jeweler experienced with older jewelry. ** Please read my policies page for more information regarding sizing or feel free to convo me to discuss it or to obtain a quote from my trusted jeweler! I'm also happy to help locate a recommended jeweler in your area.

This lovely original Art Deco ring would be a graceful engagement or wedding ring...or perhaps a special ring to add to your own collection...

Please convo with questions and Thanks for looking!
