:: Archaic Luminous ::

This exquisitely beautiful crystal was found on a walk through some clay badlands one day on the edge of the Colorado Plateau. It is a fragment of selenite, or the soul stone, as I think of it. Selenite is named for the moon, and it does appear to shimmer with captured moonlight as light plays across and through its surface. The fourth image shows sunlight flashing across its finely-etched crystalline structure. It has a very soft, refined energy.

Selenite is the crystalline form of gypsum and is one of the softest stones. So soft, in fact, that it can be scratched with a fingernail and cleaves very easily, and as a result I have never seriously considered trying to make it into a talisman. But in the past few days I've been haunted by the image of a large selenite pendant, so who am I to argue with Spirit? Someone wants this made.

I shaped and polished this piece entirely by hand, then buffed it to a satiny sheen on linen cloth. As it is worn, the luster will increase from contact with the natural oils of your skin and gentle abrasion.

Only the simplest cord would do...a strip of soft deerhide, which holds the selenite with a lark's head knot and ties to your preferred length in back. A single bead made from a natural fossil crinoid serves as an accent. It has a very fine degree of detail on the top and bottom.

I strongly recommend that you tie this pendant to rest just below your collarbone, as pictured, but it can be made longer, to rest over the heart.

Primal simplicity, a talisman that could come straight out of the archaic days, like something discovered on the floor of a cave high in a canyon wall...

Size: Depending on where it is tied, it measures 32.5cm to 39cm from the back of the neck to the base of the selenite. The selenite pendant measures 88mm x 31mm 13mm.

Care: Do not drop or handle roughly. To clean, wipe with a soft, damp cloth or rinse briefly in cool water and blot dry. If chips occur, sand the edges smooth, rinse the dust, and buff on a soft cloth.

Archaic Luminous will arrive beautifully giftwrapped in a hand-decorated box...see my sample listing for details.
