The Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary by Abbe Orsini - 1861 First Edition

New York: Virtue and Yorston, 1861, 1861. Hardcover. Full-Leather. First Edition. Over 9¾" - 12" tall. This is a magnificent binding, embossed boards with gold inlay, profusely illustrated with 27 steel engravings and other illustrations. Boards and contents are intact with some scuffing to the cover and back and wear the edges of binding. Spine has started to split - see last photo. One page. The dedication page (To His Holiness Pius IX) and first engraving have detached, but are included. Page 762 has been torn in half and it is missing pages 762-769, so I would rate this in fair to good condition.

A Large book originally of 769 pages with an excellent index. It also includes " A Historical Calendar of Feasts of The Blessed Virgin" by The Abbe Edward Barthe and translated by the very Rev. F. C. Husenbeth, D.D. In addition it contains the " Devotion to The Blessed Virgin in North America" by the Rev. Xavier Donald Macleod of St. Mary's College, Cincinnati. An excellent opportunity for the collector, researcher, seminary student, or clergy.

Only three other 1861 First Editions are available on the internet, starting at $150. I've priced this book at HALF that amount!

Please see my other antiquarian books at http://www.etsy.com/shop/victoriansentiments?section_id=7179696. I've got a great selection of Victorian jewelry too!
