Description

Josephine Baker 1906 – 1975 was an American-born French dancer, singer, and actress. Born Freda Josephine McDonald in St. Louis, Missouri, she became a citizen of France in 1937.
Fluent in both English and French, Baker became an international musical and political icon. She was given such nicknames as the "Bronze Venus", the "Black Pearl", and the "Créole Goddess".

Baker was the first African American female to star in a major motion picture, Zouzou, to integrate an American concert hall and to become a world-famous entertainer. She is also noted for her contributions to the Civil Rights Movement in the United States (she was offered the unofficial leadership of the movement by Coretta Scott King in 1968 following Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination, but turned it down), for assisting the French Resistance during World War II and for being the first American-born woman to receive the French military honor, the Croix de guerre.

This lovely studio photo features the sultry Miss Baker in Paris back in the Twenties. This amazing black and white studio shot is from a volume of legendary performance artists and dancers published in the Seventies.

"Josephine Baker" measures 6" x 10" and 8" x 10.75" overall with the border; printed on heavy quality paper with a soft matte finish. It's clean, smooth and flat with firm edges. There's another illustration of a very young Fred and Adelle Astaire printed on the back side.

Matted, framed and displayed as a gallery grouping, these lovely old black and white photo book prints illustrations are simply spectacular. (Please note that the framed examples in the last photos are just to show how this might look when it's matted and framed. Your print will come to you unmatted and unframed.)

Surrender Dorothy offers a non-stop jaw-dropping cornucopia of frame-worthy antique and vintage prints, drawings, ads, sketches, plans, lithos, engravings, posters, maps, charts and illustrations of all kinds to adorn every room in your happy home. Terrific finds to gussy up your workplace too.

Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
We prefer PayPal as it's the fastest and safest method.
Cashier's Checks and Money Orders are okay too but only if they are received within four days of your order, otherwise we'll cancel the order and put the item back up for sale.

We BEG you guys, Please... If your Etsy Address and PayPal Addresses are different, please please let us know where you would like us to send your package. We have a real talent for choosing the wrong one.

Returns & exchanges

Returns
We are happy to accept returns in good condition in the original packaging shipped within 48 hours as exchanges only and you agree to pay postage both ways.

Damages In The US Mail.
They happen sometimes.
Although we carefully wrap our vintage breakables in tons of bubblewrap and tons of padding and pack them in sturdy shipping boxes, damages still sometimes happen. *sigh*
Please tell us about damaged goods ASAP. Photograph the damages and send photos to us so that we can work it out with USPS.

Shipping policies

We ship by way of the United States Postal Service only.
Yes, FedEx and UPS are a little bit cheaper, but we find them to be very brutal with our delicates and breakables, so we refuse to play with them.

International Orders
The answer is YES we do ship internationally. Please just ask! There are many shipping destinations on this planet and each one is a slightly different price.

Additional policies

While it is considered customary for many antique and vintage shops to consider offers and dicker prices, our shop simply doesn't.
We've priced our merchandise as fairly as humanly possible. Please don't ask us to haggle.
Thank you.
