Supplies for making crafts
Materials: Gemstone: Variscite

This is large shield shaped cabochon of New Lander Variscite from Nevada. It is sometimes marketed as "New Lander Turquoise" on ebay and there is indeed turquoise from that area. But this material was submitted to laboratories by the original miner, a geologist, in the 1980s and it tested as variscite. There was a detailed article published about this material in the June 1982 issue of Lapidary Journal. This variscite at the time was marketed as Verde Web Variscite and is very scarce material.

This variety is one of the five main varieties of this mine's variscite, with a more massive pattern mixed with black and some lighter thin matrix stringers. It is the natural stone we cut from rough purchased directly from the miner years ago and the color and material is very stable, requiring no "stabilization" with epoxy resins.

This cabochon took a very high polish and the back is also polished and has a very nice pattern also, so an open back setting or wire wrap would be perfect for it.

Size is: 20.4 mm x 29.5,mm at widest points and 4 mm thick at crown.

We offer full refunds on all our stones, no questions asked, but please contact us first if you are not satisfied with any of our stones, before posting reviews. Thank you.
