Inspired by images of galaxies, I have made a pocket sized galaxy of glittering stars and gases, floating in the middle of a solid glass marble! I like to add as many layers as possible to keep you gazing into my space marbles.

The marble has been made entirely by hand, using borosilicate glass ('Pyrex' is the well known trade name of this type of glass), using both laboratory grade clear glass which has excellent clarity, and high quality art glass. To produce the 'stars' I have also used 'Dichroic' glass which is made by coating glass with an ultra thin layer of metals which reflects light in an usual way.

This marble has a helix of a dichroic glass to act as the stars, which has a copper/gold/magenta tone, mixed with some pale milky blues and yellow bands to act as 'gases' swirled through the galaxy. There are also a few bubbles which also help act as larger 'stars'. The back (which the marble gets the name fromt) is a light transparent green with darker green swirled through.

This is a really small marble, according to my callipers it comes in at about 18.4mm to 18.1mm (it's slightly shallower than wider, it's tricky getting them exactly round at this scale) diameter so might suit anyone inspired by the first 'Men in Black' film whom want to make their own Orions Belt pendant!

The glass has been fully annealed in a microprocessor controlled kiln, and comes with a clear acyrlic stand as well as a certificate, that I have individually signed, stating that it is a handmade one-off item, made by me.

Every marble I make is always slightly different, so are always a true one of a kind piece of artisan flamework made entirely by hand by lampwork in my studio in the heart of the English countryside, and is ideal either for an avid marble collector, sci-fi fan, or just for keeping in your pocket to stare into and dream of other worlds!
