Phenomenal vintage late 1920s or very early 1930s dress.

✧ sheer black georgette
✧ slender straps + elasticized off-the-shoulder ruffle sleeves
✧ double layered floor length bubble skirt
✧ rows + rows of heavy ruffles
✧ slips over the head with no fasteners

This staggeringly fantastical dress is a bit of a crystal mystery (you can read more about the mystery in the following paragraph) and it is absolutely exquisite! It features so much artful gathering and draping that it is rather heavy despite the delicate and lightweight nature of georgette, and the way that the ruffles fall down and around the body is nothing short of poetic. It would be phenomenal to wear to a gala, to a costume ball, for a magical photo shoot, or for any other especially marvelous special event. A true work of art, and an absolute vision in black!

The crystal mystery:

This dress appears as if it hails from the late 1920s or very early 1930s, which is what I was told by the woman I acquired it from, but I did discover serged seams on the inside, which is highly atypical for a dress from this era. Sergers have, however, been in use commercially since the early 1900s, and as there was clearly a label that was cut out, it could very well be that this dress was indeed made in the 20s/30s by a commercial label. I also think that it is possible that it was fully restored by someone at a later date, but at any rate it is such a remarkable piece, and certainly a good deal more than 20 years old. It is just gorgeous!

This beautiful dress may have been made over 80 years ago and is in phenomenal condition -- it is truly a treasure and very rare!!
