This is a fascinating and rare wand made from a large stem of a Blackberry bush that grows in my hedge. I've left the bark intact, and it's a rich chocolate brown along one side and a paler khaki shade on the other. The small, pale, leaf-shaped scars where the thorns were can be seen all over and the small bumps they've left add to the tactility of the surface. There are two knots showing the positions of small side shoots. It's almost straight and shows clearly the five sided nature of Blackberry stems. It's absolutely feather light because of the structure of the stem, which has a large central core of light pith surrounded by a relatively thin wall of wood. Despite this it's surprisingly strong, although I definitely wouldn't recommend accidentally standing on it as it could be crushed fairly easily!
I think this wand feels very airy and delicate, probably due to it's light weight, but don't let that lead you to believe it's in any way weak or "fluffy". It seems to have an underlying core of strength and determination that particularly appeals to me... I tend to be fond of all wands made from "spiky" wood, which probably says more about me than I'd really like! :-) It has a rather masculine air about it, which might mean it would suit a man or might mean it needs a very feminine woman in order to equalise the gender pull. I don't think it will be an easy wand to get to know, although I'm sure it will be worth the effort! As Blackberries have a strong connection with the Faery folk (the Celts considered them to be exclusively food for the Fae and it was taboo for mere mortals to eat them) I think maybe this would be a good wand for rituals designed to be "Faery friendly" or for anyone following Faery Wicca. I also believe it would be an excellent tool for protection magic and would be perfect for spinning wards around your home or property.
Blackberry Bramble, or Briar as it is also known, provides strong protection of the home. It is useful for spells concerning money or prosperity, and it is said to aid in the healing of burns.
Size: Fourteen and a quarter inches long and just over five eighths of an inch thick.
364mm x 16mm.
It will come with a list of the magical properties of the wood, a picture of the actual wand and care instructions, together with some consecration suggestions for first time buyers.
For a full list of the woods I might have available as well as their magical properties, associated folklore and a bunch of other stuff, check out my blog at: http://www.mazedasastoat.blogspot.com/
