I love the fall, and thought I would try and capture the beauty of the colorful leaves on glass. Since things change slightly when you heat them up in a kiln, colors blend and turn to surprising shades, dips and bends are always unpredictable, I find making these leaves somewhat magical. I love to open the kiln after a firing and see what magic has happened there.

This sun catcher was copied from an actual maple leaf found in Rhode Island.

It was made from glass rescued from curbside on trash day.

I painstakingly cut each leaf from a sheet of clear glass, and then apply glass paint. By removing some paint the effect of veins is created. The leaf is then fired on a mold, creating a gentle curve in the leaf, and making the paint permanent. This process creates a side of the leaf which is matte, and a side that is glossy. I then attach a metal hanger with a strong glass glue. The leaf hangs by a strong piece of plastic filament.

This leaf measures just under 4.5" at the widest point, and 3.5" from top to bottom.

This is just one of many color combinations I can create, all inspired by nature. . If you are interested a particular color or combination, convo me. The possibilities are endless.
