A version of the Rubáiyát containing the first edition of the translations (1859), the second edition (1868), and the fifth (1889), with variation in the third edition (1872) noted. Fitzgerald's treatment of the poem was highly influential, but also controversial. He openly admitted that he "transmogrified," rather than translated the text. Much is paraphrased and there is large variation between his many editions. In good vintage condition without a dust jacket. 197 pages, with 12 color plates by Edmund Dulac. Yellow-printed design on inner pages. Ink dedication reads "To Mother -- From Ethel Doris 1945".
