Prayer chaplets are perfect for adoration and contemplation for people on the go. Chaplets are prayed the same way as a full rosary. Yet their small size makes them easy to slip into purse or pocket.
Saint Patrick was a Christian missionary, who is the most generally recognized patron saint of Ireland. Legend credits St. Patrick with banishing snakes from the island, chasing them into the sea after they attacked him during a 40-day fast he was undertaking on top of a hill. However, all evidence suggests that post-glacial Ireland never had snakes. This theme draws on the image of the staff of Moses, who uses his staff, which morphed into snakes, in his struggle with Pharaoh's sorcerers. Thus St. Patrick is associated with the Haitian Vodou God Damballa. Saint Patrick is the patron of Ireland, Nigeria, engineers, paralegals; invoked against snakes, sins, and witchcraft.
This chaplet is made with faceted peridot and dark green glass beads, a communion chalice with host, and a 3rd class relic medal of Saint Patrick. A Third Class Relic is something that has been touched to the body (or to a portion of the body) of a Saint. Generally, the Third Class Relic is a piece of cloth, but it need not be.
In Vodou, Damballah is often represented by St. Patrick.
