luxe and lovely
a vintage alligator/crocodile bag
made by Bellestone circa 1960's
in a classic kelly bag shape
with a bold chunky Modernist clasp made of cross-hatched brass
and a clean interior lined in peachy beige leather

Now there are no tags that state this is genuine crocodile or alligator, but I can guarantee it is. Bellestone is one of the best known makers of high-quality exotic skin bags, and this is clearly labeled on the interior pocket. I believe the front of the bag is genuine Porosus Crocodile and the back is alligator...I see tell-tale ISO dots on some of the front scales but none on the back. According to vintageskins.com, "In the past it was fashionable to make a purse with alligator on one side and crocodile on the other" (http://vintageskins.com/news.htm). Although both types were and still are very pricey, Crocodile Porosus is the rarest and most valuable of all (Hermès Crocodile Birkins are only made with Porosus skins).

10 5/8" / 27 cm across at its widest, narrowing to 9" / 23cm at the top. It stands 8 5/8" / 22cm tall, not including the handle which has a 5" drop. Approx. 3 3/8" / 8.5cm depth at the base.

practically perfect in every way -- judging by the appearance (& the huge estate it came from) this bag was rarely used. Although it's authentic vintage, it could easily pass for new. The exterior has a high-gloss lustrous finish with no flaws or obvious wear, just a smidgen of edgewear. Now if you look very very closely, you may find a couple faint scratches -- I'm not quite sure if these are from use or just natural scar marks, but at any rate, they are only visible if you look closely and have the bag turned at an angle with the light hitting it just right. The handle is strong and securely attached, but the very top of it has a less glossy finish than the rest of the bag. The inside lining has a few scratch crease marks near the gusset folds, but other than that it is also in pristine condition. This has been recently treated with Bick4 cleaner & conditioner, recommended for exotic skins, and will come ready to use and guaranteed to delight ♥
