The Hawaiian Cloud Bow is a one string diddley bow that I created with all wood and other materials which were all recycled except for the electrical components. I hand painted the wood with acrylic paint and paint pens. Three coats of polyurethane were used as to seal it all up. The paint job was inspired by sunny Hawaiian days down at the beach relaxing with homemade music!

The Hawaiian Cloud Bow is 30.5" long x 2.5" wide and sits 2 tall when lying down. It uses a geared ukulele tuning peg at the top end which secures a guitar string that runs over a bridge across the top and then over a screw saddle mounted to a Hawaiian mint tin. The mint tin house a piezo pickup and 3.5 mm output jack which allows you to go electric and plug into an amplifier. Finally the other end of the string runs into a hole that is drilled in the bottom. Four felt pads have been applied to the bottom of the two legs.

Diddley Bow are played by tapping or plucking the string with a stick, a pencil, whatever you got handy. I use a wooded chopstick that has been dipped in plastic dip which helps to hold onto it. A bottle, brass or glass slide is used to pick out the notes on the string. I will include a plastic dipped chopstick with the purchase but the buyer will have to find there own slide. I have very subtly marked the fret positions in the paint job but can make them more obvious if desired.

I have used a high b string tuned to C but other strings can be used and experimented with. This diddley bow sounds nice and twangy acoustically, however, the sound and tone can be improved and refined further with an amp, ipad or iphone! I have a couple descriptive video of the Sunshine Bow and some of the fun you can have with it posted on youTube that can be watched by following this link:
