Comments: Gold plated silver jewelry from the Soviet era is very rare, and is a sure-fire item to increase in value. To have this ring in the US means that there is a story behind it, as travel to Soviet Russia was greatly restricted during this era.

Soviet jewelry of any type is scarce, and the gold washed pieces are very rare. Most were either gold or silver, not gold washed. The thought was that people were supposed to be 'classless', and displays of wealth, such as jewelry, were frowned upon.

In Soviet Russia the society was supposed to be 'classless', thousands of peasants died, and in the ensuing famine, more were sent to labor camps. Everything they owned was seized.

When the peasants were killed, their assets were seized, and in order to keep track, many old pieces were 're-assayed'- and stamped with new hallmarks, so the new government could keep track of what they had seized.

So it is very hard to date this. We think it is no earlier than 1922, and know it is no later than 1980.
However, it could be earlier, as not much jewelry was manufactured during the Soviet years, from what we understand.

A perfect addition to your Soviet Russian Jewelry collection. A true piece of historic symbolism.
