Urban Primitive ... at the crossroads of the truly ancient and the ultra modern lives the urban primitive.

It's probably easy to see how fond I am of stacking things, especially rocks and jewelry components. It's that whole 'repetition of form' motif with a decidedly wabi-sabi twist and this Steel and Fossil Totem pendant is a perfect expression of that passion.

This totem starts with a large steel metal clay vertebrae ring (4cm) lashed with waxed EuroFlax linen to a mix of hand-plied linen cords and leather. Knotted at the base of the steel vertebrae is a stack of fossilized bone shards alternating with pinched steel discs and topped by a steel cube bead. Dangling from this cairn of ancient and modern elements are five very rugged and raw steel metal clay nuggets, the largest has bits of sterling silver metal clay inlaid in its cracks.

My ultra-modern totem is just over 16cm (6 1/2") long and hangs from an 81cm (32") necklace of dark brown leather and hand-plied linen, closing with a steel metal clay disc and loop closure.

Strikingly cool, primeval yet modern, minimal but distinct, industrial organic, the Urban Primitive Steel and Fossil Totem one-of-a-kind pendant will arrive wrapped in muslin and tucked into a patchwork aluminum clad box cushioned with paper excelsior and indigo tissue paper, scented with rose petals all tied up with recycled sari silk ribbon.

Wrapped and ready as an exceptional gift for yourself or an unexpected gift for someone special. And as always ... beautifully crafted, spirit-infused ornament.
