U.S. WWII M2 Artillery Compass with Leather Case that snaps shut. This compass takes a very accurate reading that combines the surveyor's compass with a clinometer with level and plumb built into one instrument. It was in use during World War II, based on an earlier Compass, M1 that was not graduated in mils. The M2 has readings for 0-359 degrees and 0-6400 mils.

It is an olive drab sturdy metal hinged compass constructed of a non-magnetic alloy. Made by WM. Ainsworth & Sons of Denver, Colorado, who are renowned for their craftsmanship and high quality instruments.

The leather case is in very good condition with only normal wear and is clearly marked "Case, Carrying, M2." It has a belt loop so it can be easily worn. The compass itself has an unscratched, intact lens and is fully functional. The "mirror" part does have some spotting, but doesn't take away from the accuracy/measurement.

The outer covering of the compass has the serial number 74445.

This is very nice WWII U.S. military field equipment collectible and would be perfect for any military or scientific instrument collection or for veterens as well.
