Antique 1800s Dress
Late Victorian Dress
Blue Polka Dot Silk

This dress is going to be a bit descriptive - its absolutely PRISTINE!!

The blue silk has tiny white polka dots, but the silk itself is damask with a ripple/wave pattern. The silk is medium weight and soft. The bodice has pleats starting at the top of the shoulder going to the elbow and down the bodice - in a bit of a crescent shape. The last pleat has a band of navy blue floral lace. The arms are angled and not straight. The waist is high, with a wide attached sash. The front neckline is in the shape of a W marked out with navy blue lace and with inset floral embroidered netting - as well as horizontal pleats of netting. The neckline goes all the way up the the neck, and has celluloid stays/boning on the inside to keep it from falling. The front bodice has four covered buttons. The sleeves also have navy blue lace at each sleeve end. The back neckline is a square shape with the same netting inset. (note: the netting inset is sewn onto the silk inner lining) - The back of the sash has two false buttons. The entire back is an intricate series of eye hooks. There is an inner "corset" if you will, that is attached to the dress - the inner corset is entirely boned and made of grey cotton. The skirt is long and full - and has a gather of fabric at the base of the lower back, below the bottom where a bustle was most likely worn. Right above the knee line, is an inset panel of navy blue lace which comes to a point at the front of the skirt - and a long ruffle starts from there to the floor. The ruffle has long reverse pleats.

This dress is remarkable - ever edge of selvage inside of the dress along the corset, has been hand surged/finished.

Label:
Material: Damask Silk, Netting, Cotton
Condition: Practically Pristine! - I found three TINY (practically invisible) moth chews along the bottom ruffle on the right side, and these were only seen because I held the dress up to light when inspecting it. Other than slightly yellow netting at neckline (which is quite common for pieces of this age) and a slight smell of "vintage" - this dress appears to never have been worn. There are no perspiration marks inside or outside of the dress.

Era: Late 1800s, early 1900s, Victorian Era
