Women's Japanese Haori jacket is beautifully handcrafted, with traditional tailoring techniques that I can appreciate as a seamstress--someone put a lot of effort and attention into this custom piece, and most if not all of it without a sewing machine!!!

Silk shell features a watercolor scene of flowers and lily pads in the beautifully fleeting, impressionistic style of Monet. Inside is lined in red cotton and matching silk print. There is a thin layer of quilting inside for light insulation. Stitching is invisible, making this Haroi reversible in the traditional way. Thick black band around collar adds a masculine, structured element to balance the super soft, feminine silk print. Sleeves are vented under the arms in the traditional style. Handmade vintage item, no tag

Good vintage condition, clean and free of major flaws. Sleeve openings each show some stress where the fabric separates under the forearm, easily reinforced for wear or left as is for display. Faint pink stain on sleeve, see close up photo. Blends with print and is highly unnoticeable without close inspection. May dry clean out, but I lack reliable dry cleaning services in my area. Otherwise Haori appears to be worn very little, a truly special and unique piece!

About the Haori: These traditional Japanese jackets are designed to be worn over a kimono, and not intended to be fastened with an obi. They are worn for warmth and to protect the kimono. Harori vary in sleeve length and fabric depending on what they are intended for--daily domestic Haori will be made of sturdy fabric with a shorter sleeve length, while formal, ceremonial Harori will feature more delicate silks, and longer, more dramatic sleeves. This Haori leans more on the formal side, with fine silk sleeves that would not want to find their way into the soup pot!

All measurements are given in inches:
52" sleeve span, end to end.
30" long
48" around chest / waist / hips with a 6" open gap down center front.
