Description

This is a cute navy and white patterned ume (plum blossom) kanzashi flower hairpin, upcycled from silk and cotton-blend vintage kimono fabric. Material has a slight crepe texture. This large flower is adorned with white pearly stamens, white poly-silk leaves and self-made bira-bira (aluminum flutters). Mounted on a thick and extra-sturdy self-made hairpin. Best for medium-to-long hairstyles - I have medium length hair, so I put it into an updo with a hairclip and slid the kanzashi hairpin into said clip to keep it in place.

This kanzashi makes a lovely accessory for homecoming, prom or wedding attire.

All of my kanzashi are made with the highest quality silks, unless otherwise stated. Said silks are also hand-dyed by yours truly, and are typically mounted on self-made, two-pronged hairpins, which slide into your updo with ease. The art of tsunami kanzashi takes many hours of careful preparation and creating these unique fabric flowers.

Measurements:

Length: 6" (about 15cm)
Bloom diameter (sans leaves and bira bira): 4" (about 10cm)

I didn't fully understand the "tailoring" aspect of the kimino. I just thought it would be oversized and longer. But it is barely stitched together and you have to take it to someone to construct it for you. I will say the fabric and patterns are beautiful. I wish it would have been more clear that I would have to put it together. I'm not fully sure how to rate this. But I know it isn't exactly what I had wanted from this purchase.

Marissa Rojas responded

Buyer did not read the description of the listing, nor did she contact me for more information/photos prior to ordering. She also did not contact me about her concerns before leaving the negative feedback, either. When I reached out to her to explain in detail that a “karinui” is a partially-finished kimono and would require a kimono seamstress to tailor it (which was all in the listing’s description), the buyer blamed me for her oversight. Highly unpleasant experience. Sellers beware!

I received this remnant panel quickly and it is lovely. However, it must not be completely silk because when I tried to use it to dye my Easter Eggs, it did not transfer very well. Other silk pieces I used worked wonderfully.
