This owl, Merridoll the purple, has had a hard run in my studio. In the first run her ear got chipped. I patiently filed that down, evened the one that wasn't broken. In the final run, a little wee piece of kiln brick fell and stuck to her ear - the SAME ear that I had already filed. Needless to say, she got her ears filed down again with a dremel tool (a corundum bit no less). Let me just say that the dremel on porcelain makes a sound like a dentist's drill (and try to tell me that I don't love these poor poor nerves). She's all better - the texture on her ears is moderately different from the rest of her glazed body, but still smooth to the touch!

Merridoll is two and three quarter inches tall.

This will ship usps 1st class domestic and international. I refund shipping overages. I ship 1-2 times a week due to a premium on my space. I am truly a one person studio, so please be patient with me, I promise the slight wait is worth it.

Owls like this one are formed from capsules of porcelain clay that are then gently twisted and pushed into shape before legs, ears, tails etc are added. I paint them with washes of color, much as one would use watercolor - I like the bones of the clay to show, especially as porcelain has such a lovely melting quality to it.

This owl was completed on Sept 16, 2012 and was one of ~100 pieces in the firing.
