A beautiful and frivolous antique petticoat, dated to the beginning of the 1900's. The fabric is batiste cotton and lawn, the petticoat has been lined half way down to give fullness around the hem, rather than around the waist, it has been completely and minutely hand stitched.

One steps into this petticoat, the drawstrings are at the back, so only the back of the petticoat ruffles, the front of the garment lies flat across your tummy. The slight bustle effect at the back is very, very feminine. At 35cm/14" below the waistband there is a wonderful band of hand worked lace (photo 5) through which a satin ribbon was once threaded. 18cm/7.5" below there are four rows of hand sewn tucks, then an insert of Valenciennes lace, then more tucks and more lace - repeated three times in all (photo 2). Around the hem of the petticoat there is a wider, 5cm/2", band of Valenciennes lace, that will show deliciously below your evening gown or your wedding dress !

The measurements are as follows :

The waist (around) at its smallest : 68cm/27" (drawstrings at their tightest)
The waist (around) at its biggest: 130cm/51"
Length : 92cm/36.5"
