This 28th annual of the off-beat series is about The Cult Of Youth. Loaded with women starlets and stars, party girls - faces and figures of the sixties. The protest movement the 1960's, expressed in music, fashion, art, Carnaby Street fashion and permissive morality revealed as being not quite as their devotees may suppose.
James Laver traces the course of beat and hippy outbreaks since the French Revolution. There are amazing Cecil Beaton photos. The forgotten fashions of 1919-1924 are revived by Doris Langley Moore.
The world of Toulouse Lautrec are vividly described and illustrated with many drawings Paris in the 1890's investigated. . A short story by V. S. Pritchett. There are wonderful wood engravings of English waterways by George Mackley and Machu PIcchu is illustrated. Victorian lantern lectures by Olive Cook. An appreciation by John Betjeman of the Gothic visions depicted in Rodney Hubbuck's drawings, and a splendid anthology of Ninetheenth Century Nudes.

There are so many great photographs from the 1920's into the 1960's, incredible illustsrations, and lots of text, so much that can't be shown here..


The book is in Excellent /Very Fine Condition. The spine is tight to the pages and the pages tight to each other. Nicely squared, not slanted. The bottom and top edge has slight fading on the cloth pink board. The photos/illustrations are on glossy paper and look fantastic. The text is on textured paper.
The dust jacket is in excellent or better condition. The back has slight dis-color marks.
Fantastic copy of this incredible hard bound book.
