I was told this dress was made in 1900, but it may be from as late as the early 1920s. If it is from 1900, it would have been worn as a beach or play dress. The bodice is cut on the bias and is made of a single piece of fabric (looks like voile) which closes in the back with a row of tiny mother of pearl buttons, which are probably not original to the dress. The skirt is also made of a single piece of fabric with one side seam. The stitching is machine made and tiny zig-zagging along the edges of the collar give it a look of delicate lace. The pink seam binding inside the neckline looks to be a later replacement. This dress may have originally been a very pale pink, judging from some hidden areas within the seams.

There a few very tiny rust spots that you have to look for to find, and the color is uneven (darker from age) in some areas. It may be possible to slightly darken the entire dress in a tea bath, and even out the color. There are also several areas where a thread in the fabric has been pulled. This isn't readily noticeable, and with some patience it could be remedied. For its age, this dress is in very good condition. The fabric is sound, with no weak areas, holes or tears. The dress has been laundered and pressed and is in wearable condition. Beautiful display piece or photo prop.

Measurements: Waist (empire): 24 in.; length: 30 in.; armholes: 10 in.; sleeve length from edge of neckline: 11 1/2 in.; hips: free.
