I love old kitchen gadgets, but few stand the test of time as well as this old iron nut cracker. My friend Amy from St. Francisville, Louisiana used to tell stories about her Daddy sitting at the kitchen table for hours shelling the pecans that fell from their trees in the fall. He used a clamp nut cracker probably much like this. I've tested it, and it really does seem to crack the shell in a way that is less disturbing to the nut than the hinged ones that you might use to crack a crab claw.

The aged patina and stamped type make this piece as decorative as it is functional.

It reads:

PATENTED
PERFECTION NUT CRACKER
BRANFORD CONN
