I threw the body of the bird house on the potters wheel. Next was the top, also made on the wheel, followed by the overhang which is a section of yet a third piece made on the wheel. Once put together, I sculpted some simulated leaves and a branch that your feathered friends can use as a perch. I also hammered some textures onto edges to enhance its "woodsy" feel. As you can guess, each bird house is labor intensive and uniquely constructed. This piece stands about 8" tall X 5 1/2" in diameter, and has an entry that is roughly 1 1/2" wide. It is finished in an iron red glaze that shows a variety of color ranging from red, to olive, to black. This would make a great gift for the bird lover in your life, and could be hung in the spring to attract a nesting pair of local birds.
