Description

A large, gorgeous polished stone of Petrified Wood (which feels wonderful in the hand, like a worry stone!) forms the centerpiece of LOOKING THROUGH YOU. Can you hear the Beatles song in your head now? ;-)

I created this necklace with heishe beads of Lapis Lazuli, interspersed with Magnesite (aka "White Turquoise), Botswana Agate and Rose Quartz, with gold-plated accents and a lovely goldtone pewter toggle clasp.

This is a substantial and impressive piece, 21 3/4" long, excluding the focal stone.

ABOUT THE STONES...

The stones comprising this necklace give it an overall quality of peace, calm, joy, inner wisdom.

PETRIFIED WOOD: Grounding, stabilizing, strength

Petrified wood is basically fossilized wood that has had it's organic matter replaced by agate, bit by bit, as it decomposes. The wood structure is maintained, but the wood fibers are slowly changed into stone. Petrified wood is a stone that is good for grounding and stabilizing one's emotions. It is particularly useful in calming survival-based fears, as it assists one in accessing their practical side for answers, then offering a feelings of safety and security. It is a stone of business success, and a good stone for general protection.

Petrified wood can be used to calm down survival based fears, helps to make one feel safe and secure, helps one feel ageless. It also offers "gentle hours in the day", to assist one in keeping pace with the day, keeping the hours from neither hurrying by or moving to slow...you are therefore moving forward in a good and steady way. It helps one feel that all will be right, and to be connected to their spirit.

During a crisis, a piece of Petrified Wood will give you strength and support, providing insight into cause and effect. You will remember lessons, avoiding repetitive mistakes. Petrified Wood will help you forget petty worries, so that no thought or action is useless. Petrified Wood is an excellent gem for leaders. It has endured the ravaging changes of time and become stronger, as will you if you ask for its help in your leadership role.

LAPIS LAZULI: Inner vision; truthful communication; royal virtues

Lapis Lazuli has been considered a stone of royalty and spirituality for centuries, and was used to entomb and decorate the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt. It still carries the vibration of the inner “king” or “queen” that lies within each of us, and helps us get in touch with that aspect of ourselves. Lapis is an extremely healing and soothing stone. Simply touching the body with this stone improves your mental, physical, spiritual, psychic and emotional condition. It is an uplifting, spiritual stone whose deep blue color reflects its peaceful vibrations. It is useful for relieving depression, promoting spirituality and stimulating gentleness in its wearer. Lapis is associated with expansion of awareness and intellectual capacity, as well as with the connection to the higher self, and the powers of love and healing. It has been used in rituals to attract spiritual love and assure fidelity by strengthening the bonds that have grown between lovers. Perhaps its most common use today is to enhance psychic awareness. Lapis breaks the hold of the conscious mind on the subconscious mind and allows intuitive impulses to become known. Physically, it has been used in the treatment of conditions related to lymph, inflammation, and pain (especially the head).

MAGNESITE: Calming, imagination

White Magnesite (sometimes referred to as "White Turquoise") is known for its calming properties, and helps to improve creative visualization and imagination. It is also commonly believed to bring deep peace and silent relaxation during meditation, stimulate passion in the heart and help strengthen bones and teeth.

BOTSWANA AGATE: Balance, truth, healing

Agate is a grounding stone that helps bring about emotional, physical and intellectual balance. Psychologically, it gently facilitates acceptance of one’s self and builds self-confidence. Intellectually, agate enhances mental function by improving concentration, perception and analytical abilities, and encourages speaking one’s own truth. Emotionally, agate can help one to overcome bitterness and negativity. It heals inner anger, fostering love and the courage to start again. It is useful for any kind of inner trauma, and aids spiritual growth. Agate has been used in treating disorders of the digestive system, eyes and uterus. It is cleansing to the lymphatic system and the pancreas, strengthens blood vessels and heals skin disorders.

ROSE QUARTZ: Love; gentleness; emotional healing; stress relief

Rose Quartz is a highly beneficial stone that is deeply in tune with our emotional states. It opens the heart, helps us find self-acceptance, and stimulates love and tender appreciation of all things. If you are troubled by something, Rose Quartz can help you find a space within yourself to accept the situation, find respite and restore your faith. Rose Quartz emits a calming energy which can work on all chakras, especially the heart and crown chakras. It promotes a sense of self-love and encourages peacefulness in relationships. In addition, Rose Quartz promotes receptivity to the beauty of art, music, and the written word, and enlivens the imagination. It helps one to develop a nurturing and compassionate spirit, and is advantageous for the heart and circulatory systems, the cleansing organs and the reproductive organs. This stone is ideal to give to anyone, even stranger. As a talisman of love, it can spread compassion and gentle understanding throughout the world.

MY PROCESS ...

In creating a necklace, I first select a focal piece, and then choose the various stones to complete it through an instinctive (and fun!) process. After lighting some incense and putting on some music that suits my mood that day (new age, world music, nature sounds, classical or soft jazz), I hold the pendant or focal stone in my hand as I look over ALL of the hundreds of types of stone beads in my collection, and choose several (way more than what will eventually be included - usually 20 or more types) that look and feel "right." Next, I narrow things down by repeating the process among the beads I first selected, and place handfuls of about a dozen different types in the old African Mancala game board I use as my beading palette. I then choose complementary glass seed beads (often used as spacers) and a clasp, and begin beading - entirely by instinct. Often, I will get to a certain point and begin over again, until the necklace that is meant to be reveals itself. Sometimes, I find that a stone I hadn't originally chosen is screaming to be included, and I always honor that. Not all of the stones in the final palette are used, and usually the piece turns out entirely differently than what I had originally envisioned. It is a process that feeds my soui. I am inspired by the colors and textures of the materials I work with, and by my spirit guides (all animals! - see my profile), as well as by the constant presence when I'm beading of my two beloved rescued dogs (O'Keeffe and Teddy) and a giant rescued Maine Coon cat named Sassafras, who rules the roost. All three love to be a part of the process.
