My family has a Bluegrass band that performs locally in our area. I started making guitar and mandolin picks that were designed for and tested by members of our band. Wood picks create a richer, more vibrant tone than plastic picks. These are completely hand made from lumber I milled. There is quite a bit of satisfaction in making something with hand tools only. I cut the initial shape with a coping saw, sanded the picks to the desired thickness with 60 grit sand paper and sanded them to its final shape with 120 grit sand paper. After smoothing the surfaces with 220 grit, I rubbed them with mineral oil and a 400 grit sanding block. Each pick is slightly different in shape and size. The musicians in my family enjoy the quality of tone they get with wood picks and I hope you will too.
