This pattern was created by me & my husband from an antique original dress in our collection. We first drafted it for use by docents and re-enactors at a local state historic park back in 1996.

The dress has been reviewed by museum curators, textile experts and the owner of Past Patterns, all of whom helped us authenticate it to middle nineteenth century. I have written the sewing directions so that anyone with some sewing experience can make the dress. My husband is the artist who illustrated the directions.

We have published & sold this pattern for years under our previous mail order label of Chile-n-Crackers (long story about our re-enacting days involved!) and now make it available here.

Fabric requirements are given on the back of the pattern: you will need minimum 6 yards up to 8/9 yards of a cotton historic reproduction print (depending on how tall you are and how full you want the skirt). I have made it with as little as 5 to 51/2 yards by using a hem facing and changing the sleeve fullness a bit.

My original dress has seven calico buttons on the bodice and one on each cuff, which inspired my reproduction calico button production for a few years. For a limited time I offered the last of my buttons in my etsy shop.

This pattern includes three modern sizes of Medium, Large and Extra Large, and is easy to alter to your exact size.

It is comfortable to wear and since it was a day dress workdress. It can be worn without a corset, but maybe the sensible stay, Pattern # 705, from Past Patterns. Or at a minimum some boning in the side seams.

Please contact me for any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them as soon as possible.
