Very nice print of an impressive plate! So beautiful that a few weeks later I also bought a print of Psalm 139 to give away as a gift.

Psalm 8 (also available in english!)

verses 4-5

When I consider the heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars confirmed by you there,
What then is mortal that you think of him,
the human child that you look after him?

Reflection by Johan ter Beek on Psalm 8:
One of the psalms that perhaps breathes the most wonder is Psalm 8. In it, David describes how the starry sky amazes him with the fact that God cares about man. He almost loses himself in his sense of insignificance, only to discover that, despite this, God connects with man.
Even today, the starry sky has the potential to make us feel small. The mountains have the same notorious effect on us, especially if you are used to living in a flat country like the Netherlands. Or just look at what happens to you when you walk along the beach in a stormy wind. Feel yourself shrink in the face of so much power. It can be frightening, but it can also have a profound, healing effect on us. For, indeed, who are we really? How liberating it is to realize that we are small people in an enormous universe and an enormous span of time?

This psalm bears a strong resemblance to the creation story in the Bible. According to that story, God created humans last. In this psalm, man stands exactly in the middle (verse 6). Afterward, it states that humans are allowed to rule over the birds, fish, and land animals. That, too, is found in the creation story (Genesis 1:26-28).
